Things to do - Exploring Amorgos Island

Amorgos island offers many opportunities to enjoy its natural beauty. There are over a dozen walking trails, with the most amazing views. Discover the authenticity of the island from the local villages. Visit Amorgian traditional houses, meet the locals and learn about the island’s unique customs.

By far one of the most unique experiences on the island is a visit to the Monastery of Hozoviotissa (which is included in the excursions). Located near the famous Agia Anna beach, this important Greek monument has great historical significance to the country as it is the second ever built church in Greece. Built 300m above sea level, the upward journey to the actual landmark, provides a peaceful walk with breathtaking views of the Big Blue.

Amorgos has plenty of beautiful beaches, some of the most popular being Agia Anna, Agios Pavlos, Mouros and Aegiali. Whether you prefer sand or pebbles, everything is possible in Amorgos. You can swim in the crystal-clear water, or enjoy the beach life, relaxing on the sun loungers and under the beach umbrellas, which some of the beaches provide.

Spa treatments

You will receive a complimentary full body massage from the highly skilled therapists at Lalon Idor Spa. Other body and beauty treatments are available from the spa menu at an additional cost.

You are also welcome to relax, rejuvenate, and pamper yourself at Lalon Idor Spa complex. You can enjoy complimentary use of the sauna, hammam, jacuzzi, and the indoor salt-water pool, which comes with a water cannon and a flowing stream.

Arrival by airplane

Direct flights to Athens International Airport (Eleftherios Venizelos Airport) (ATH), including Newark, JFK, and Philadelphia. There are flights with one stopover leaving from their regional airports around Baltimore. Another option is to fly to Paros National Airport (PAS), Naxos Island National Airport (JNX), or Santorini (Thira) National Airport (JTR), and then take a ferry to Amorgos. In this case, you will minimize traveling hours.

Arrival by ferry

From Athens, you have different ferry options to reach Amorgos. You will have to fly to Athens International Airport (Eleftherios Venizelos Airport) (ATH), then reach the port of Piraeus in Athens and take a ferry to Amorgos.

Trip duration by ferry depends on the type of the ferry and its schedule. It can take five to eight hours. Usually schedules for each year are announced around the beginning of the year and you should find your ferry before purchasing a flight. Often in July or August, the winds will delay the high speed hydrofoil type ferries, so plan accordingly to arrive on time for the first day.

Amorgos can only be accessed by ferry. You can fly into Athens and take the long ferry, or fly into Santorini, Naxos, or Mykonos and take the short ferry. If you're prone to seasickness, take the shorter ferry and look for the high speed option. Check schedules on Ferry Hopper and plan to arrive on time for the first day, allowing for wind delays.

Shuttle from port to the resort on the day of arrival and departure (29th September and 5th October) are included in your rate.

Yan highly recommends from experience that you account for the length of travel, jet-lag, and possible delays and spend an extra night or two in Greece before the retreat if possible.
